How I use ABC Discovery in my classroom
I created this series from the way I actually teach letters with my preschoolers. After we review the letter name and sound, I read the story and exaggerate the beginning sound so the children can listen for it. Before long, they are calling out words of their own for me to write down.
And yes—made-up words count, too. If a child invents a word that begins with the sound we are exploring, that tells me they are listening, experimenting, and making the connection. The goal is not to memorize a list. It is to become curious about language.
The story provides the spark. The children help decide where the language goes.
