Fall is here, and so is the letter of the week curriculum! I hope you have as much fun with these activities as my kiddos did!

Alphabet-Alligators and swamps

Every week I swap out the outdoor sensory bin for a new one. I always have a set of the alphabet inside for the kids to practice with, but let’s be honest they just use the pictures for imagination play 😂. This week I tried something new, I added these scavenger hunt pages! Pick up a letter from the sensory bin, and find it on the page. Be sure you are crossing off the correct letter (uppercase or lowercase). They LOVED this so much! I only have 4 printed, as that’s all that can fit around the bin, and every kid was asking for a turn.

You can find this set here.

Abstract

  • variety of fillers
  • variety of tools
  • variety of toys

To create this sensory bin, I took several different fillers to create “pie pieces” in the sensory bin. I then added several different colors and shapes! So much fun to play with and look at 🙂

Ants

  • Neutral filler (rice and beans mix)
  • Ants
  • Toy food
  • Rocks
  • Etc.

Add all of your materials to the sensory bin and play! In the past I used to add real marshmallows or gummy candy for the kids to skewer on top of the ant toothpicks, however they have broken the ants since, so this will do! 😂

  • White rice
  • Penguins
  • Magnet tiles
  • Snowflakes

Architect

  • Connecting cubes/legos/blocks
  • “Blue prints”

Print and laminate your free pages here for re-use. Have kids build/design their blueprint as they describe the colors, amount of blocks, what they are building etc.

Archaeologist

Click the here to browse these scavenger hunt pages. Print and laminate your page. Print, cut and laminate your polaroids. Hide them inside of a tray full of flour/sand. Have kids use tools, or their hands, to find the items on the list. Match and cross off each item.

Asteroid Musical cards

Your child will learn to:

  • Enhance listening skills
  • Gain gross motor skills
  • Use problem solving and memory skills
  • Match images (when used as memory)

Directions:

⭐️Print double sided on thick paper

⭐️Lay your cards image side down

⭐️Hands up, listening ears on!

⭐️Play a song, and then randomly stop

⭐️When the music stops, the players put their hand on a card

⭐️On the count of 3, flip them over

⭐️If you get the asteroid, you’re out

⭐️Remove a card and continue until there is only one person left 🙂

⭐️Print as many copies as you need players

Print 2 copies and play memory!

Amazon rainforest

  • Dry erase markers
  • Eraser

This page was super easy to whip up on canva.com

The kids used dry erase markers to find each animal and mark it off.

Avalanche

  • Wax
  • tray

I know what you’re thinking, “I’m not going to go buy wax for this!”. 😂 I had this huge box left over from a Hanukkah activity last year and needed to get rid of it. It looks very similar to snow so I felt it was perfect for the job. Have kids build mountains with the wax, and then create an avalanche to knock it down.

Dramatic play

Architect

  • Blueprints
  • Hats/vest/dress up
  • Snack station
  • Blocks
  • Etc.

Display your items and have kids design and build from their blueprints.

Ants at a picnic

  • Antenna
  • Picnic blanket
  • Picnic food

Set up your picnic and have your kids pretend to be ants as they eat!

Airport

  • Airport printables (I used canva to find these images)
  • Dress up
  • Etc.

Set up your airport and have kids board, and fly the plane!
